Nigel
Sturrock, Clinical Director at Nottingham University
Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH), has been selected for a
national leadership programme.
He will join the Health Foundation’s GenerationQ, a pioneering leadership project to improve the quality of healthcare.
GenerationQ will create effective healthcare leaders for the future who understand how complex health systems work and can inspire others to transform healthcare quality.
Dr Sturrock is one of 18 senior leaders to join the course. He is a Consultant Physician in Diabetes & Endocrinology and Clinical Director for Digestive Disease & Thoracics, and Musculoskeletal & Neurosciences at NUH.
He said: “I am honoured to have been selected for this prestigious programme. I know that it will be a rigorous, stretching course but ultimately not only will I benefit as a medical leader, but more importantly NUH and the Directorates that I serve will too.”
Penny Pereira, Assistant Director at the Health Foundation, said: “GenerationQ will develop leaders who can tackle structural and financial challenges, recognise and use the current uncertainties in the NHS as a source for innovation, lead others in change when resources are being cut and people are feeling under pressure and make informed choices that help to improve quality.”
The fully-funded 18-month programme focuses on a combination of leadership development and improvement science. GenerationQ is run by the Health Foundation in partnership with Ashridge Consulting and Unipart Expert Practices. The programme was launched in 2010 specifically to develop leaders for the purpose of quality improvement and to be relevant to everyday practice in healthcare.
