Nottingham
University Hospitals NHS
Trust, one of the UK’s
largest acute teaching
Trusts, has launched two new
websites for patients and
visitors, including a new
mobile phone version of the
Trust’s main site which can
be found at
www.nuh.nhs.uk/mobile.
The new mobile site enables patients and visitors to quickly and easily access contact information, directions to Nottingham’s hospitals and telephone numbers for all wards and emergency departments via their web-enabled mobile phone. It is believed NUH is one of just a few Trusts nationally to have a mobile site.
Ian Smith, Deputy Director of ICT services at the Trust said: “Many phones are now used for browsing the web but often websites designed for traditional computer screens fail to load correctly or are extremely difficult to read on a small device. The development of the new mobile phone website gives patients and visitors the most important information they may need, wherever they need it. This includes contact information for the Emergency Department, maternity services, all wards and the Nottingham Children’s Hospital as well as detailed information about parking and directions to both Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital from anywhere in the UK.”
In addition to the launch of the new web site for mobile phones, a new look Trust website - www.nuh.nhs.uk - has been launched. Some of the changes include improved accessibility for certain users and additional easy to find sections about our NHS Foundation Trust application, research projects happening at the Trust as well as a section specifically designed for clinicians, GPs and medical professionals. In addition, a much improved search function is now available. This improved system allows the Trust to fine tune the results displayed to the user according to the most popular search terms used and the number of visits certain pages receive.
Ian Smith added: “An online survey carried out via the hospital website last year showed that although most users of the site found the information they needed, the layout, design and search function of the site did not fully meet their expectations. We hope that the new look main site and the brand new site for mobile phone users will ensure patients, visitors and other members of the public find the information they need easily and quickly no matter where they may be.”
