The Nottingham Cochlear Implant Programme was established in 1989 when, together with funding support through the Ear Foundation, we provided the first child with a cochlear implant in the UK.

We have now carried out over 1000 implant operations and have become one of the leading establishments in the field. Nottingham is the largest paediatric implant service in the UK and receives referrals from throughout the UK.

Cochlear implantation requires a unique combination of technology, skills and long-term support provided by our multi-disciplinary team.

Our facilities offer the most up-to-date medical and scientific techniques available, together with family-friendly accommodation and resources delivered by highly experienced staff.

Our background in research and development within the field of cochlear implantation, and in the service partnership we foster with local services in supporting our patients, has built up a national and international reputation for excellence in cochlear implant service provision.

We provide lifelong support for our patients, both present and future.

Nottingham Cochlear Implant Programme is part of the Directorate of Head and Neck at Nottingham University Hospitals Trust, Queen's Medical Centre Campus, and is supported by the resources of this major teaching hospital. It is based on two sites:

Ropewalk House

Ropewalk House, near the city centre, where the administrative, audiological and rehabilitation facilities are based.

QMC

Queen's Medical Campus, where the ENT, Radiology and Medical Physics departments are situated, and where surgery is carried out.

Ear Foundation

In addition we work in close liaison with the Ear Foundation, an independent registered charity situated close to the Queen's Medical Centre. They provide rehabilitation, research, information and training facilities. NCIP staff will often provide family friendly support within this facility. Family accommodation is also available on this site.
