Offshore Medic
Course (HSC approved)

Pre-entry
requirement for the Offshore Medics Course: You must have
at least 3 years of experience as:
-
a
Registered General or Enrolled Nurse with name on the UKCC
register;
-
a Military Medic Army CMT, Navy MA, Air Force MA;
-
a
State Reg Paramedic;
-
an
Operating Department Practitioner (fully qualified).
The course of instruction will enable offshore medics to carry out
their duties confidently in respect of the following subjects:

Introsseous Devices
-
Throbolysis Training
-
Advanced Life Support Course (UK Resuscitation Council
Accredited)
-
I.V. Cannulation & Injection Techniques
-
Urinary Catheterisation
-
Chest Drain Insertion
-
ENT conditions
-
Dental First Aid
-
Eye conditions
-
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh
Accredited)
-
Intubation
& Advanced Airway Management
-
12 Lead ECG Rhythm recognition
-
Communications
-
Medical Emergencies
-
NG Tube placement
-
Suturing Techniques & Wound Care
-
Use of Emergency POP
-
Use and administration of drugs
-
Emergency
Psychiatric conditions
-
Manual Handling (Certificated Course)
-
Food Hygiene (Certificated Course)
-
Common Minor Ailments including dermatological conditions
The course cost is £2,300 including:
- Two weeks at the Clinical Skills Centre
- One week Hands on in the A & E Dept (Full course only)
- One week GP attachment (Full course only)
Qualified Offshore Medics may use this course as a refresher; and
only need attend the two week clinical skill teaching. The refresher course cost is £1,300
