Five Ways to Wellbeing was developed by the nef
(new economics foundation) and is aimed at improving mental health.
These five key messages reflect kinds of behaviour that people can
undertake which, evidence suggests, may lead to improvements in
their psychological wellbeing.
...with people around you. Think of your friends, family, colleagues and neighbours as the cornerstones of your life and invest time in developing them. Connections with others will support and enrich you.
Go for a walk, a run, go cycling, play a game, dance… exercising makes you feel good! It is important to find a physical activity that you enjoy and that suits your fitness and mobility levels.
…of what is going on around you. Be curious and aware of your surroundings and of your feelings. Reflecting on your experiences will help you be grateful for the things that matter to you.
Try something new. Learn to play an instrument, learn a new language, learn how to cook your favourite food, take on a different responsibility at work. Set challenges that you will enjoy achieving. Learning new things will be fun and make you more confident!
Do something nice for a stranger or a friend. Volunteer your time, link yourself in to the wider community. This can be incredibly rewarding and will create connections with people around you.
