What it means to be a member

Equipment store roomA vital source of information and feedback

One of the main benefits of becoming an NHS Foundation Trust is that there is the opportunity for far greater local ownership and involvement of patients, the public and staff.

As an NHS Foundation Trust we will be accountable to our members through a new Board of Governors. Members have a key role in electing the Board of Governors.

You can only stand as a Governor or vote for a Governor if you are a member. Over half the Board of Governors are elected by the public.

Types of membership
There will be two constituencies from which our membership will be drawn:

  • Public members
  • Staff members

Members can decide their own level of involvement and commitment. As a member you will not receive any payment or preferential NHS treatment, but you will:

  • Receive regular information about the Trust and be involved in helping to shape our future direction and development
  • Be able to stand for election yourself, or vote for others who you would like to represent you on the Board of Governors

Becoming a member is quick, simple and it’s free. For more information, please click here.
