About Ward E17 We have a 10-bedded ward which has 4 side rooms with en-suite facilities. Most of the families you will meet will have children with kidney or bladder problems. However, we do admit children with other illnesses if we have spare beds. The ward also houses the Elizabeth Ward Haemodialysis Unit. This is a purpose built unit designed to treat up to 7 patients receiving haemodialysis. The unit was built with a generous donation from the British Kidney Patients Association and is named after the Association's founder. Also on the ward is the specialist nurse office. Here, specialist nurses in urology, dialysis and transplant are based. There is a small area for patients who come for treatments and investigations as day cases. We are hoping to develop the space for these patients in the very near future. Play The ward has a small play room which is equipped to provide entertainment for small children. We also have several televisions, DVD players, play stations etc. We do not encourage patients to bring their own expensive electrical equipment into hospital as we cannot be responsible for it's security. Young People We recognise that young people might need their own space! We cannot guarantee that you will be in a single room but we will try. The ward has a room which combines school in the day and a youth room in the evening. Even better, our fantastic, state of the art youth room is just around the corner. This is a room for young people aged 11 years and over. Drop-in sessions are staffed by our youth work team every day. Click here for more info on the NUH Youth Work Project. Education Education is important, especially if your child is in hospital for a while. The ward has a school room and a separate school area in the haemodialysis unit. The hospital education base is on our floor and if your child is well enough they will be encouraged to go to school. Our teachers are based on the ward and can support your child's education. If your child has to come to the hospital for regular treatments the teaching staff will liaise with your child's teachers to ensure they are given relevant activities.
