Patient and Public Involvement Strategy

The draft strategy sets out the ambition, commitment and plans of NUH for patient and public involvement (PPI) in 2012/13.

Stroke Care in the East Midlands

During the summer and autumn of 2009 NHS East Midlands staged a number of engagement events around the region and invited patient and public representatives to help us shape their plans. Read about the outputs of these in our stroke and heart attack public engagement report below.

Major Trauma

We want to create a specialist major trauma system in the East Midlands that will have at its heart a dedicated centre of excellence. This centre will have specialist doctors and nurses, trained to deal with major trauma, who will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to treat patients.

This centre will be based in one of our large hospitals in the region and it will always accept a major trauma case through its doors.

Such a centre will be known as a major trauma centre because it is the most specialised. This centre will be supported by a number of trauma centres based at other hospitals across the region that will stabilise and care for less serious cases.

The ambulance service will better identify major trauma patients and take them straight to the right service rather than to local emergency departments.

During the course of 2009 Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust will be applying for NHS Foundation Trust status. We ran a public consultation on our proposals to become an NHS Foundation Trust which closed on Wednesday 13 May, 2009, and we will shortly be able to update you on the outcome of that consultation.
