Hospital website receives national highly commended award

The new Nottingham University Hospitals public website (www.nuh.nhs.uk) received a Highly Commended award at the Association for Healthcare Communications and Marketing (AHCM) Awards 2012 inLeicester last night (22 November).

The honour recognises that the project surpassed the standards of usability, accessibility and functionality expected of a public sector website.

The hospital set out in late 2011 to design, develop and deliver a new website for patients, visitors, staff and other healthcare professionals. After a public tender, digital design and development agency Mentor Digital were chosen as the providers of the system. Working closely with patients, healthcare professionals and NHS Foundation Trust Members, the project team was able to launch a new site of over 1,000 pages and several thousand documents within an incredibly tight four months.

Laura Skaife, Associate Director of Communications, said "The Trust had been struggling with an outdated system for managing its public website for quite some time. A new site was required and we felt strongly that it needed to be developed in conjunction with our existing website visitors. We ran a preliminary online survey and invited the general public and colleagues to be part of a much wider consultation on the design, navigation and development of the site. These exercises proved to play a fundamental part in the design of the final site and has re-enforced just how important it is to consult throughout a project with the right people at the right time."

"It's always an honour to have our work recognised but recognition at such a national level and against such excellent competition assures us that we have delivered an excellent website for our local community."
