Clinical Immunology and Allergy

The Clinical Immunology and Allergy department provides comprehensive treatment for adults with allergic conditions, immunodeficiency (people with recurrent or unusual infections) and a rare group of illnesses called auto inflammatory disease or hereditary recurrent fevers . People are referred from across the UK to the hereditary recurrent fever clinic.

The department provides treatment for the following conditions,

  •  IgE* mediated allergy such as hayfever, rhinitis or immediate food or drug reactions
  •  Urticaria (hives rash) and angioedema (swelling)
  •  Primary immunodeficiency
  •  Hereditary angioedema/C1 inhibitor deficiency
  •  Hereditary recurrent fevers

*Immunoglobulin E, or IgE, is a natural substance in your body that plays an important role in the development of allergy.

The service is predominantly on an outpatient and day case basis.

Making / Changing / Cancelling an Appointment

All appointments are made through referral from your GP. You should initially make an appointment with your GP to discuss your problem after which your doctor may refer you to our department.

GPs can then make an appointment through choose and book. Shortly after visiting your GP and agreeing on a referral you will receive a letter asking you to ring or go online to choose an appointment.

Locations

Adult immunology and allergy patients are usually seen in Clinic 2 at the QMC campus. This is on B Floor, central route just past the x-ray department. Please check your appointment letter first to ensure that this is the case.
