Nottingham
University Hospital NHS Trust is committed to preventing healthcare
associated infections (HCAIs), including MRSA and Clostridium
difficile. Patient safety is our number one clinical priority and
there is a highly active Trust-wide infection prevention and control
programme aimed at reducing infections and minimising risk.
The Trust has robust protocols for tackling MRSA which are based on
national guidelines for MRSA prevention and control. A crucial part
of our MRSA control measures involves screening patients for MRSA.
In line with recent national guidance, the Trust is now screening
all elective (planned) adult admissions, all adult emergency
admissions and certain categories of day-case attendees.
Compliance with our MRSA screening protocols is monitored at our
weekly infection control operational meetings, supported by a
detailed audit programme. Through this process we are able to offer
significant assurance that compliance with our MRSA screening
protocol is extremely good and continually improving..

Care Quality Commission - The prevention and control of infections | June 2009 |
C diff and MRSA figures for all hospitals across the country are now being published online on a weekly basis by the Health Protection Agency.
It is part of Government plans to improve transparency and accountability in hospitals. The new weekly reporting schedule for MRSA bacteraemia and C diff includes counts of cases by hospital (and not acute/PCT-level reporting).
The weekly data for every hospital is available at www.data.gov.uk.
From early July, infection figures for every NHS hospital in England will be updated weekly online, giving statistics for each of the previous 12 weeks. The formal weekly publication scheme will start 5 July. There will still be formal monthly, quarterly and annual publication of official data.
The Health Protection Agency has provided a useful narrative on the
figures - click here to read it.
