The Patient Hotel

Patient Hotel The Patient Hotel at Nottingham City Hospital was opened in November 1994 and was the first purpose-built patient Hotel in the UK, modelled on the patient Hotel concept in Malmo, Sweden. The purpose of the Hotel is to accommodate low dependency patients who do not need the full facilities of a hospital ward, but who need to be within the hospital campus.

The hotel has 52 rooms of which 8 are reserved for the maternity unit. The rest of the Hotel is occupied by patients from other departments within the hospital.

If you are generally fit and healthy and have an uncomplicated pregnancy and birth, you and your partner will be invited to stay overnight in the Hotel, with your new baby. This will provide you with the opportunity to have support with basic parenting skills and breastfeeding as required, from a midwife and/or a Midwifery Assistant. We aim to help you develop confidence so that you can provide a safe and loving environment for your baby at home. You can expect to go home from the Hotel within 24hrs of giving birth. (usually a minimum of 1 night stay)

Accommodation and meals are free for guests who are patients of the City Hospital. Should you wish your partner to stay with you there will be a charge of £25.00 for a double room and £20.00 for a room with ¾ size bed, both include continental breakfast.

All rooms have en-suite bathrooms, coloured television and telephones. Tea and coffee making facilities are also available in each room.

The Restaurant is open for use by all partners family and friends during your stay in the maternity unit - whether on the ward, labour suite or when booked in to the hotel.

The restaurant serves a selection of hot and cold refreshments and is open from:

  • Breakfast 0730 - 0930
  • Lunch 1200 – 1400
  • Dinner 1730 – 1930 (Mon – Fri) 1700 -1900 (Sat – Sun)

The Hotel is open for visitors between 9am and 9pm.
