The Nottingham Back and Pain Team

The Nottingham Back and Pain Team has been treating people in long-term pain since 2000. Developed from the evidence base to provide self-management based treatment for people living with long-term musculoskeletal pain.

We employ both individual and group treatments depending on the needs of the person. The aim of our programmes is to prevent long-term disability and wherever possible improve physical, psychological and social function. Using exercise therapy, education and relaxation strategies within a cognitive behavioural framework, we strive to challenge popular misconceptions about long term pain. We also aim to teach practical techniques to improve quality of life and reduce long-term dependence on healthcare services. We believe these aims – and our treatments – should transcend age, culture, language, sexuality and gender.

The team consists of physiotherapists, nurses, occupational therapists, a cognitive behavioural therapist and Psychologist. We have a variety of experience including pain management, orthopaedics, rheumatology, mental health and cognitive behavioural therapy. There is admin/clerical support.
