Volunteering

Nottingham University Hospitals (NUH) welcomes volunteer’s participation in many of its wards and departments across all campuses. We are pleased to have volunteers perform a wide variety of tasks to help compliment the heath care NUH provides.

A volunteer is any individual who agrees to work at or for NUH on either campus, or for any organisation and agencies which has an agreement to provide a voluntary service to NUH. Volunteers do not receive any remuneration for their work other than out of pocket expenses.

We have two types of volunteer at NUH, There are the individuals who offer their services directly to the NUH and are appointed and managed by the voluntary services department. We also have individuals who work for an agency or external organisation that has an agreement to provide a voluntary service to NUH.

Please note that we do not place volunteers on any of our Labour Suite’s, at the City Hospital or QMC Campuses of Nottingham University Hospitals.

General Information

Age The minimum age for volunteering in clinical areas is 18.
Dress A uniform is provided where appropriate.
Training Training is available where necessary.
Expenses Travel expenses may be claimed for a maximum of 20 miles radius of NUH for car users or for public transport users the appropriate bus fare. Meal vouchers can be claimed in certain circumstances.
Car parking Parking is available but space is limited so we do encourage volunteers to use public transport if possible.
Commitment All volunteers must commit to a minimum of six months volunteering with us.

As part of our ongoing commitment to the continued safety of our patients, visitors and staff, please note that all successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced Disclosure check through the Criminal Records Bureau.
